What is the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation?

We are a grassroots group of individuals working to promote ways for our community to live compatibly with wildlife.  We accomplish our mission through focused, on-the-ground projects and through wildlife education.  Our philosophy is to approach our work in a collaborative, creative, and solution-oriented manner.

Started in 1993, the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization - your donations really help. Our programs include a multi-faceted roadkill reduction campaign; removal of obsolete barbed wire fencing which poses a hazard to wildlife; a citizen science, nature mapping project to provide needed data on local habitat used by wildlife; power line marking to insure safe flight of swans, raptors, and other large birds; a cavity nesting box project to increase cavity nesting opportunities for species such as bluebirds; and wildlife education projects, including wildlife “friendly” fencing projects and Bear Wise Jackson Hole, a collaborative program with Wyoming Game and Fish Department that works to prevent human/bear conflicts.

We believe that by correcting certain things we humans have created (obsolete barbed wire fencing, for example) and by doing small things in our daily lives a little differently such as driving more carefully to prevent wildlife collisions or keeping garbage and bird feeders from bears, we can moderate our impact on wildlife and create a more wildlife friendly Jackson Hole.

We accomplish our work through a volunteer board of directors, a small, paid staff, and the generous help of many volunteers.  Most projects are done in collaboration with other organizations including Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the National Elk Refuge and the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

The Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals with varied backgrounds including wildlife biology, plant ecology, wildlife management, public relations, law, conservation, planning and development, private business, and education.  We believe the Board represents a good cross-section of the community and enables us to have thoughtful debate about current issues that includes many different perspectives.
